Beyond Words: A Creative Exploration

Creativity can help us express and work through things that words alone don’t reach. As the artist Georgia O’Keeffe put it:

"I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for."

This taster workshop offers a space to experience this for yourself. Creativity isn’t reserved for the people who are talented or trained in art. It belongs to everyone. This session isn’t about artistic skill or producing something that looks a certain way — it’s about the process of making, and about doing that in a space that feels warm, accepting and free of judgement.

The workshop willl begin with a gentle guided visualisation, followed by time to respond creatively to whatever image emerges for you. The focus is on what the image means to you and the process of creating, rather than the final product.

Liesl Silverstone, who pioneered this way of working, described how ‘images, like dreams, tap into the world of spontaneous knowing’. This process opens a space for reflection and emerging self-insight, often going deeper than words alone can reach.

Afterwards, there will be space to talk about what came up for you, and any thoughts, feelings or insights connected to it. Sharing is always optional, and you’re welcome to keep your work private.

This is an experiential workshop where participants will be offered the opportunity to express and explore themselves through art. Please bring paper and simple art materials such as felt tips, pencil crayons or oil pastels. No artistic experience is necessary, just a willingness to explore.
