Karen Balfour Counselling and Supervision

  • Central

Life can be challenging, and sometimes we all need a space where we can pause, make sense of our experiences, and feel genuinely heard.

I am a Person-Centred Counsellor, Clinical Supervisor and NCPS Accredited Professional. I offer a warm, accepting and supportive relationship where you can explore whatever is troubling you without fear of judgement. I believe that when we feel safe enough to be ourselves, we can begin to understand our experiences more deeply, reconnect with our strengths and move towards living more authentically.

Alongside counselling, I supervise both trainee and qualified counsellors and provide external supervision for staff working within charitable organisations. Whether in therapy or supervision, relationships are at the heart of my work. I aim to create a space where people feel supported, valued and able to grow.

I work with a wide range of issues and have a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent individuals and their families. Much of my work involves helping people navigate a world that isn't always designed with neurodiversity in mind. My approach is neurodiversity-affirming, recognising and valuing difference rather than viewing it as something that needs to be changed.

With over 30 years' experience working with children, young people and families across Scotland, I bring both professional knowledge and lived understanding to my work. I qualified as a Person-Centred Counsellor in 2009, became a Clinical Supervisor in 2022, and achieved NCPS Accredited Professional status in 2026.

I continue to believe, as Carl Rogers did, that people are doing the best they can with the resources available to them, and that within each of us lies the capacity for growth, healing and positive change.
