Volunteer Student Counsellor Placement

Part Time, Edinburgh

As we expand our work at direction, we are looking for a Volunteer Student Counsellor to join our friendly team in Edinburgh, on a part time basis.

The successful candidate will hold the following essential attributes:

  • Currently studying for a Diploma, Degree or Post Graduate qualification in Counselling/Psychotherapy.
  • Working towards being a member of BACP and/or COSCA, working within these professional body’s ethical practice, confidential framework and recognised standards.
  • High ethical standards of practice.
  • Excellent standard of verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to carry out all work with a friendly, professional, and ethical approach.
  • Provide evidence of Supervision, continuous professional development, and course attendance.
  • Possess own Professional Indemnity Insurance.
  • The ability to work well on your own with minimum supervision, using personal initiative.
  • Disciplined, organised and thorough, with an attention to detail.
  • A commitment to providing excellent client care.
  • A willingness to contribute to the development of a useful learning environment for self and others.
  • Be computer literate, proficient with online booking systems and online client appointments.
  • A commitment to equal opportunities.

Key Responsibilities of this role:

  • Provide counselling/psychotherapy services for individuals face to face in Edinburgh and online via TEAMS/Zoom or via telephone.
  • Be available for at least 3hrs per week and for 2 of these hours to take place in one evening per week.
  • Be able to travel to Edinburgh City Centre for Face-to-Face sessions.
  • Ensure all client contact and personal details are obtained and stored in line with GDPR regulations and our company data protection policy.
  • Accurately record necessary session notes for each client/organisation.
  • Liaise and communicate effectively with other direction team members.
