As a community development worker, youth worker and support worker in the 1990’s, I found I had a flair for forging safe enough and trusting bonds with people I was trying to help, many of whom were not used to trusting workers. Much of what I did was instinctive and improvised, and emerged in me spontaneously in response to the person I was helping.

I was then drawn to train in the Person Centred Approach. Rogers’ and other authors’ ideas seemed to fit quite closely with my own values and with my preferred way of helping a person maintain themselves and flourish.

My development as a therapist has come from spending a good deal of time walking my own edges as a client in my own therapy…from being in friendships with good people who want to relate authentically and intimately….from being a parent to my now adult son…and from engaging openly with the everyday of life.

My work now is based on being a skilled, creative and loving presence, helping the person navigate their way through their issues and struggles.
