Clare Elliot (Counsellor in Biggar, South Lanarkshire)

I am an Integrative Person-Centred Therapist offering counselling to adults and young people in Biggar, South Lanarkshire.

The person centred approach under pins my therapeutic work with clients, yet I also bring an integrative approach to my work. This means I draw on different specific therapies and combine these together enabling me to tailor myself to each client's individual needs and unique circumstances.

I aim to provide a safe and confidential space to provide clients with the opportunity to share whatever is causing them emotional difficulty, inner conflict or creating disharmony in themselves and/or within their lives. I believe that when we are given the opportunity to engage in a safe, confidential relationship, where the client feels deeply accepted, understood and is met with warmth and compassion, that it is possible to become more freely and clearly in touch with what is causing emotional difficulty. This provides an opportunity to re-evaluate your relationship with yourself, others and the world around you. With this expanding self-awareness and shifting perception comes the potential of learning how to be more self-accepting and discovering one's own answers and solutions, of how to manage presenting difficulties or uncomfortable emotions. My experience is it is through this process of greater clarity and deep self-acceptance that curiously positive change can occur.

I have been working with clients for 7 years offering counselling and therapeutic support. Over this time I have gained experience in a wide range of settings including a rural charity community project for vulnerable adults, a young person's project, a GP practice, a specialist addiction service, an employee assistance programme (EAP), a domestic abuse service and within a school counselling service counselling primary aged children.

I currently work part time as an in-house GP Practice Therapeutic Counsellor and within my own private practice.

I have experience working with a wide range of issues and emotional difficulties. I have experience working with clients who are struggling with low mood and/or anxiety, clients who have encountered trauma and those experiencing relationship difficulties.

I have a special interest in working with children and young people and I am currently completing a Certificate in Counselling Children and Young People for working with this client group.
