I offer a secluded, private and confidential space that supports you to find more satisfying ways of managing any matter that may be causing you distress, concern or unhappiness. My approach is to provide sensitive understanding that enables you to gain insight, and acceptance. I work on the basis that you are expert on yourself and what you are experiencing. I expect that through working together you will find increasing awareness of the personal capacities and resources available to help you now and in the future.
My practice is 5 minutes walk from Lenzie train station in a quiet location. It is accessible by car, train or express bus from the centre of Glasgow in 15 minutes. There is off road parking in the drive. The practice has its own entrance and is comfortable with views to the garden. I work with individuals, couples and groups.
I work with each person's uniqueness in diverse situations including supporting each individual to find more satisfying ways to manage the challenges they are experiencing such as: anxiety and bereavement, relationship difficulties, educational dilemmas, sexual and racial issues, child abuse and trauma, as well as clarifying personal problems.
My background in education and counselling has nurtured a keen interest in providing spaces that support exploration and reflective learning. In addition to providing counselling/psychotherapy to clients and clinical supervision to counsellors/psychotherapists I work with another experienced counsellor to co-facilitate group counselling for private, educational and other organisations. I provide consultancy for teams that seek to develop themselves and/or others from a person-centred approach. I run CPD events tailored for specific counselling groups and agencies. I am happy to discuss arrangements and costs for these aspects of my work.
Therapy can be arranged for just a few sessions and sometimes even one session may be enough. If you choose it can continue over several weeks, months or longer. This depends on your individual situation. I would discuss this with you before and during our work together.
Sessions will usually last one hour. Changes to this can be negotiated and discussed before we meet.
Whilst many people see their therapist once a week to begin with, we can agree to vary the frequency according to your wishes and my availability. It is usually helpful to discuss this together so that we know what the agreement is to begin with knowing that we can agree to change this at any later stage.
When we first talk and or meet, it is likely that you will know how far you feel you can trust me, the space that we work in and if you will be comfortable enough talking with me about very personal thoughts and feelings.
It is important to trust your judgement. If you don’t feel that it will work well with me, it is most likely that you will find someone else who you feel is a better fit for you.
My practice is wheelchair accessible. I subscribe to BACP's Ethical Framework for the Counselling professions and am subject to its conduct and complaints procedures.
I have 20 years of counselling experience including managing a university counselling service, counselling within primary care, private practice, the voluntary sector and with employee assistance services.
I completed my first degree at the University of Glasgow in 1980 followed by a teaching career in secondary schools, colleges and universities. Thereafter I completed a BACP Accredited Diploma in Counselling in 2000, gained Accreditation with BACP in 2002, and Senior Accreditation in 2006. I gained a Certificate in Clinical Supervision with PCT Britain in 2003 and MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2012
I am a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and provide a private counselling/psychotherapy and clinical supervision practice. I was a part-time Teaching Fellow for the University of Strathclyde and trained counsellors there from 2003-16. I currently train experienced counsellors in clinical supervision at the University of Strathclyde and train counsellors for the University of Aberdeen/Persona and on the MSC in Genetic Counselling at the University of Glasgow.
I provide individual and group clinical supervision to experienced counsellors as well as those in training. I have run my private independent practice for 18 years.
