The ‘Basic Encounter Group’ is a concept originally adopted by Carl Rogers to identify encounter groups that operate on the principles of the person-centred approach.

These groups offer an intense personal experience where Rogers believed profound change is possible:
“the intensive group experience, the encounter group – whatever you wish to call it – is, when well managed, well facilitated, I think, one of the most significant social interventions of this century. I think it has had – and continues to have – a tremendous impact… a well facilitated encounter group which relies on the potential that resides in the group is, and continues to be, a very powerful experience for personality change, for behaviour change, for laying the basis for solution of social problems.”
Form Rogers, C.R. and Russell, D.E. (2002). Carl Rogers: The Quiet Revolutionary, an Oral History. Roseville, CA: Penmarin Press. p.194-195

This is a unique opportunity to experience the encounter group as conceived by Rogers and developed intensively in Japan bringing together people from around the world to celebrate difference and diversity. At a time when the world struggles to accept difference, encounter is more relevant today than every.
