I have been a practising Counsellor/Psychotherapist in Ayrshire since 2003. I am committed to providing this service in a safe, confidential space, where trust in a relationship can grow and develop. I have 11 yrs' experience counselling in the NHS with adults who have learning disabilities, 10 yrs GP practice/hospital setting, 2 yr placement within a secondary school with 11-17 yr olds and 7 yrs within my own private practice.

I work with individuals on a one to one basis for a time-limited period or sessions can be carried out on an open-ended basis, where we can work together for as long as you want to and we will review our focus on a regular basis if that is what is required.

I also offer supervision, which I have been providing since 2008 to Counsellors in Training and Qualified Counsellors/Psychotherapists. Supervisees have come from a variety of organisations: Ayrshire Council on Alcohol, Rape Crisis and CRUSE Bereavement. I also provide supervision via Skype.

I believe in the client's capacity for self-determination. The client is the best person to make decisions for him/herself. I see my role as twofold: as providing a safe place for the client to explore their thoughts and feelings, to find out who they are and how they may want to be in their lives; and as an active participant in this process.
I come from a background in education and drama.
My work as a counsellor has involved me in a variety of settings: in the voluntary sector, with Careers Scotland, in University Counselling Services (both at Aberdeen and RGU), as a school counsellor, tutoring counselling skills at Aberdeen University and training volunteer counsellors.
Presently, I work part time at the Aberdeen University Counselling Service where I see staff and students and in Private Practice with adults and young people. I also supervise both counselling students and experienced practitioners. I take referrals from Employee Assistance Programmes and offer professional support to social workers through an EAP company.

I have experience counselling adults of all ages who have been struggling with many different issues. I believe that a safe and trusting relationship and environment are core to the counselling process and this underlies my counselling approach. I believe that being heard and feeling accepted gives a person a better opportunity to discover their inner resources and the best way for them to grow and move forward in an emotionally healthy way. My practice is conveniently placed in the EH6 area and I am able to offer flexible counselling times.
