About me

I am a Person Centred Counsellor & Supervisor. Using the Core values of the Person Centred approach provides the foundation for real therapeutic growth. It is from this place that I can work with others - trusting there is a way forward for everyone.

My counselling work covers many areas of mental health – anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement and loss, childhood and adult abuse and many other subjects.

I have extensive experience of working with substance misuse and also broad experience of peri-natal mental health, both in 1:1 settings and group-work.

Additionally, I work as a Supervisor, supporting the clinical practice of counsellors and student-counsellors.I hold a Post-graduate Diploma in Counselling from Persona Training and Development (2009), (accredited by Stirling University).
As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (www.bacp.co.uk), I abide by their ethical framework for practitioners.
I am also an accredited counsellor with Alcohol Focus Scotland (AFS) (www.alcohol-focus-scotland.org.uk).
I have worked across Edinburgh and the Lothians for many years with Drug and Alcohol misuse. I have trained as an Acu Detox Specialist with NADA UK offering Auricular (ear) Acupuncture to

Welcome. People come to counselling for many different reasons, and when working with you I aim to provide a caring, non-judgemental place for you to look at any areas of your life that are important, or are of concern to you. You are in control of what you talk about, and I will help you explore and get a different perspective on what may be troubling you.

Together we can work out your goals, and what you would like to achieve from counselling.

I strongly believe that the body and mind are linked, and that we often fail to use this vital connection in understanding our responses to events in our lives, so in our work together I pay attention to what the body is telling us as well as attending to what you say. This can be particularly useful at times when we may get overwhelmed by our emotional response to situations or events, which can leave us feeling unsafe and distressed or out of control. Feeling safe enough to explore what is going on for you is an important part of therapy, and this is an essential focus of my work with clients.

I have a background in bodywork, and my counselling experience includes youth work, sexual abuse, trauma, bereavement and GP practice, where a considerable part of my work is with depression and anxiety. Currently my time is divided between private practice, supervision (1:1 and group) and counselling training. I am a former tutor on the PG Diploma in Counselling and the PG Certificate in Counselling Skills at Strathclyde University.

I am a Senior Accredited Counsellor with BACP and have over 18 years of experience of working with a variety of different client groups, as well as different contexts (including GP practice, workplace counselling and addiction counselling). I originally studied languages and then worked in Marketing & Advertising before retraining as a counsellor at Strathclyde in 1998.

My core model is person centred, but over the years, I have picked up a variety of techniques and ways of working from other models (ie Family Systems Therapy and CBT), which I can integrate as and when appropriate and according to the needs and preferences of each individual client. I have a particular interest in working with clients with Aspergers and other forms of ASD, as well as trauma, particularly if caused by war or displacement.

Hello ,I believe that I am a warm and caring person and I enjoy working with people very much. I am wondering if there is any way in which I can help you with the problems that you are currently experiencing in your life. We all have problems and we all need support. Are you supportive to your self or do you think you just " need to pull yourself together and get on with it"?

I have worked with people with depression, anxiety, stress, low self esteem, self loathing etc and I am also particularly interested in people presenting with relational and connection difficulties. People who do not feel welcome in this world and who feel alienated and isolated.

I have worked in the NHS for many years as a Nurse Practitioner and have a good understanding of the impact that health issues have on each persons quality of life. I have also worked in the clinical area with people who had cancer and I currently volunteer with Cancer support Scotland. I have also had the privilege to work with people who had problems with their heart and lungs and who faced major surgery as a consequence of this. I know the impact this can have on the person and also the members of the family (carers). So many difficult situations for the people involved.

If you feel you would like to have a chat please feel free to get in touch.

I have availability in a confidential space in my home. It is completely secluded and looks out on to the back garden. Parking is readily available. I also have access to a lovely room in Paisley town centre if preferred and there is some free parking here. There is also wheelchair access at this site only. I also have access to another room in the West end of Glasgow near Charing cross and just off woodlands road.
